Taperia Poblacion: Spanish Filipino cuisine at its finest

I’ve always been fascinated with Spanish Cuisines as their ingredients are mostly my favorites such as tomatoes, tapas, jamon, cheese, rice and a lot more. They’re also close to our local cuisine so there would not be much of an adjustment with our taste buds.

Taperia Poblacion provides dishes that will satisfy your Spanish-Filipino palate. Not only that it’s authentic in flavors but it’s also affordable. Located in Poblacion, exactly at Second Floor, Six Axis Center, it’s a spot for different restaurants in Makati but what stood out with them is the Chef Ariel Manuel. Previously owner and Chef of Lolo Dad’s, he now manages Taperia Poblacion and making wonders in the Kitchen.

It has  a homey ambiance. Wooden furniture, cozy sofas and different plates hanging on its wall. I could say there wasn’t much in it yet but it still has a homey vibe. My suggestion is for them to add more lights in here as it was a bit dark.

Here’s what we got to try:

Pinxtos (Php 60-65 each) – These Basque-style mini sandwiches might look so petite but their strong in taste. Available flavors are Fried Jamon, Baked Brie Cheese with Sobrasada and Smoked Salmon and Egg Pimiento. All tasted amazing. This is already a meal to me.

Salmon Ahumado Crepe Ensalada (Php 200) – Fresh salad which consists of lettuce, smoked salmon rolled in a crepe drizzled with Anchovy dressing. A healthy way to start the meal. The dressing blended well with the crisp and fresh greens.

Chipirones Adobo (Php 390) – Baby Squid cooked  in Balsamic vinegar and garlic. Our very own way of cooking with the freshness of the squid. Every bite, the juiciness of the squid was bursting in all the flavors. This is something you have to try if you’re into squid. I do and I loved it!

Gambas with Almonds (Php 395) – I dig anything Shrimp, now with almonds? Totally a star.  The Shrimp was cooked perfectly. Imagine the texture of the shrimp with crispy almonds. It just blends perfectly well.

Lamb Aceitunas (Php 425) – Lamb has a strong flavor and so does this dish. It has Tapenade which consists of puréed or finely chopped olives, capers, and olive oil. The Lamb was tender and it was so tasty!

Espagueti a la Bolonesa (Php 420) – I’m impressed with the pasta as it remained al dente even if it stood a bit long. The sourness of the sauce was what I prefer, so this is perfect for me. My kind of Spaghetti.

Arroz En Su Tinta (Php 680) – All that Squid, Shrimps, Mussels and Scallops in a sticky rice. I love the flavor but I just wish that the Seafood were all the way at the bottom. It was all scattered on top.

Arroz Valenciana (Php 660) – Rice was cooked in Tomato with Saffron, Chorizo and Chicken. Something my Mom would love. The richness of the flavors even the aroma was superb!

Seafood Pasta En Su Tinta (Php 420) – The seafood were freshly cooked and perfectly cooked too. There’s this sweetness to it that you can tell when the seafood’s fresh, right? Even if we’re all full with the dishes, we still can’t get over of this dish. This is my favorite of the day.

Costillas de Cerdo  (Php 375) – Fall-of-the-bone meat. The smoked flavor added an aroma as well. You can tell that his was marinated in longer hours. Enjoyed this dish with rice.

US Rib-eye Salpicao (Php 425) – Cooked medium rare, this Rib-eye was so juicy and tender. The flavors permeate so smoothly on the meat. Definitely something you have to try on your visit.

They also offers different desserts such as:

Flan de Naranja (Php 55) – Creamy, soft and smooth Leche flan. Good that this wasn’t too sweet.

Brazo de Mercedes Cupcake (Php 45) – This little wonders were put on a cup. There’s custard filling inside as well, just like our regular Brazo de Mercedes. I was just not used to it seeing this way.

Magdalena (Php 180) – which has two flavors, by the way. There’s Brune Butter and Chocolate Truffle. I love the texture of these cupcakes. Again, the icing wasn’t all too sweet. It has that addicting flavor to it, so beware.

You should grab one or two of these to end your dining experience with a blast.

They also serve wine here and if you wanted to check out the bar beside them, please do so.

Chateau Bonnet Entre-Deux-Mers 2014 (Php 1,660)
Ventisquero Reserva (Php 1,660)

There’s Sangria available too. I liked that it was fruity and has minimal amount of wine only. They normally light it up so there’s a fire effect on top  of it.

We had totally gastronomic dining experience here at Taperia Poblacion. They also offer a buffet here every Sunday. I suggest that you bring your whole family to experience what Chef Ariel Manuel has to offer – and there’s  lot!
