This isn’t my first time to try Soru Izakaya as I’ve been to Maginhawa branch and I remembered how much I loved it. They serve different kinds of Japanese dishes from Ramen, to Sushi, Maki, Tempura, Udon, Yakitori and a lot more.

I was able to try this branch in BGC recently and had the same feeling the first time I set foot at the other branch. The Japanese artwork and other displays matches the concept of the place. It’s a two story building with lots of Japanese accents for you to get the vibe.
First floor is where you can see how they prepare your food. There’s a glass window there if you wanted to take a peek for some entertainment. Second floor is much more relaxed as it has the bar area where you can have your cocktails prepared right in front of you. When it comes to food, it was totally Instagram worthy, I had a hard time consuming it because I don’t want to ruin the beautiful plating.
We tried the following:
Poke Bowl – Tuna and Salmon cubes with cucumber, mango, onions, and lettuce. Dressed in Sriracha mayo and mango sauce
It was served fresh. All the greens and fruits were refreshing and tasty at the same it. The spiciness was tolerable.
Spicy Maguro Salad – Tuna Sashimi cubes and tempura flakes dressed in spicy Japanese mayo and miso topped with black tobiko over fresh salad greens
That’s a bowl loaded with fresh fish and vegetables. It was indeed filling already.
Aburi Moriawase – combination platter of selected aburi: shake, maguro, saba, horse mackerel and tako
Lava Maki – Salmon skin and tamago topped with salmon and tuna cubes in spicy mayo and teriyaki sauce
Love the creaminess of this roll. It was savory and spicy at the same time.
Spider Maki – Soft shell crab, mango and nori drizzled with teriyaki sauce and Japanese mayo
Avocado Maki – Unagi tempura, cream cheese, mangoes and avocado with teriyaki and avocado sauce topped with ebiko
I already expected a soft texture of Avocado but I wasn’t much of a fan of this flavored Maki. To me, I want my avocado more along with vegetable than rice.
Carbonara – Thick wheat noodles with uni, Salmon and shitake mushroom in wasabi cream sauce topped with ikura and parmesan cheese
This was really creamy and such a delight to eat. It was creamy and the noodle were cooked al dente.
Cold Soba – Buckwheat noodles over soft tofu served with enoki and ebi tempura in light soba sauce
Tempura Dai – a Japanese dish of battered and deep-fried prawns
My favorite of all and this will make me come back to Soru Izakaya over and over again. The batter was light, the Shrimp was huge and filling. I definitely recommend this to all Tempura Dai lovers out there!
Wagyu Steak – Iron grilled Wagyu Steak with mixed vegetables.
The meat was fork-tender and it absorbed the sauce which gave it more flavor. The vegetables on the side added more texture to this already delicious dish.
Miso Ribs – Slow-cooked baby back ribs marinated in special miso
It was succulent in every bite. The meat were totally fall off the bones.
Matcha Cheesecake – layered matcha and white chocolate cheesecake with buttered grahams and matcha powder
The best Matcha Cheesecake in the whole world, in my opinion. Period!
Overall experience was amazing! I love almost all the food. The staff accommodated us all and they served the dishes with a smile. Can’t wait to come back and try the Ramen.
