Nanyang – Southeast Asian delights

I’ve been wanting to try Nanyang’s Kaya Toast as I’ve heard a rave review about it. I was lucky to try it out with my fellow foodies couple of weeks ago. Venue’s a bit small and can easily be packed during meal time. So prepare to be in queue.

Nanyang is located at the ground floor of SM Aura Premier. They’re alongside BreadTalk which is where they get their fresh baked breads daily, too.

The chandeliers have dim yellow light which added a warmth vibe to the place. The  black and grey tiles added a modern, rustic kind of feel to it. The colorful mural made it looked lively at the same time.

I also like that they opened their kitchen as you can see them make your toast and coffee/tea. Not only that you’re secured with your food, but it also added an entertainment during your stay.

Nanyang is a place in Singapore, but they offer other Southeast Asian flavors. Here’s what I thought about the food that they offer.

Traditional Kaya Toast (Php70) – with butter and coconut jam (kaya).  This comes with soft boiled egg that’s perfect as dip with their soy sauce.  The toast was sweet but the savory soy-sauce and egg made the flavor all burst in your mouth. I so love this toast a lot and would recommend this to everyone.

Floss Multigrain Thick Toast (Php90) –  The floss was savory and the condensed milk balances the flavor. It blends so well together. What’s best paired with this would be a hot brewed coffee.

Peanut Butter Multigrain Thick Toast (Php70)Love the peanut butter as it was a bit salty-sweet which I like.

Homemade Nasi Lemak (Php238)– The coconut rice was on point. It was a bit sticky and perfectly cooked. You can taste and smell the flavor of coconut but not overpowering. Chicken was tender and crispy, I also enjoy the peanuts and anchovies on the side. It’s also interesting that the egg was boiled but fried, too.

Hainanese Chicken Rice (Php268) –  The chicken were flavorful. The ginger taste were evident too. It comes with ginger and chili and lime sauces on the side.

It also comes with Fried Chicken if that’s what you prefer. The Chicken here has the same flavor with their Nasi Lemak and Cheesy Chicken Chops.

Laksa Prawn (Php238) – The coconut milk here was intense. You can really feel it in every sip but not to the extent that you’d dislike it. The Prawn was so delicious. This would be one of the dishes that I’d come back to.

Cheese Chicken Chop Noodle (Php238) – If you wanted fried chicken and don’t feel like having rice, this one’s the deal for you. The noodles were cooked firmly. I just think this was a bit salty and oily for me.

Curry Chicken with Rice/Toast (Php248) – This one’s spicy. The curry  was rich. This is another dish that I highly recommend. It comes with rice as well.

Fish Ball Noodle Soup (Php198) – The noodles were cooked right. I just think this was a bit salty too. This one’s what you can have during rainy days.

Kopi Jelly Milktea – Well, you have coffee and milktea in one drink. What more can you ask for? And the price? For only Php130. While the one in other coffee shop has chewy coffee jelly, Nanyang’s version has a soft and easy to chew which is quite similar to what I had in Hongkong. Now I know why this one’s a best seller.

They have Sparkling Soda (Php130) available too which comes in 3 flavors, Passion Fruit, Lychee or Peach. This one’s in Lychee flavor.

To sum it all, there’s a lot of dishes that I loved and would definitely come back to. I can definitely say that they’re affordable and worth your a bang for buck.
