The ambiance is well lit, cozy and relaxing. We arrived around 1 pm and was surprised at the number of people already coming in. That’s a good sign that they offer something good and we’re quite excited.
The interior has full of wooden rattan with plants and comfortable couches making you feel more homey and relaxed. With most of their guests being Balikbayan, they wanted to make them feel more like dining back in the comfort of their homes.
We were first served with their Signature Iced Tea (Php85) and it tasted really good. I can tell this wasn’t powdered so I am really satisfied. Good enough to beat the Summer heat, indeed.
Here, they serve Filipino dishes no frills, no shortcuts. As what Chef Pete said, their food is what our grandparents used to serve us. Oldies but goodies.
Balut Matapobre (Php260) – They are getting their balut straight from Pateros. The taste was just like the usual balut but garlic made it more fragrant.
Laing Inside (Php885) – Again, no frills, right? That’s giant prawn with Laing inside. This would be one of the best Laing in town, in my opinion. It was creamy and has the right amount of spiciness.
Pancit ni Aling Doreen (Php398) – Imagine that hand-pulled noodles freshly out of the kitchen. You can taste the difference from that of instant noodles. This was al dente, and tastier. Not to mention that it’s full of seafood, meat, and vegetables. I just find the sauce a bit salty but overall, this is one saucy and tasty noodles.
Seafood Platter Sungkaan (Php1,499) – If dining with a group of 4, one suggestion would be to order this platter. It includes Binukadkad na Tilapia, Grilled Liempo, Chicken Inasal, Pork BBQ and some vegetables. It has its own set of dip that you can try. There’s vinegar, spicy soy sauce, peanut sauce, bagoong, and more.
Dirty Ensaymada (Php235) – A combination of our dirty ice cream in between Ensaymada. I like that the cheese and butter of Ensaymada complimented well with the Ube flavored ice cream. It gave cheesier flavor in it.
Skillet Cassava Cake (Php155) – Love this dessert as its also loaded with cheese on top. The cassava was soft it almost melts in your mouth.
I can say that this restaurant is an addition to where you can take your Balikbayan friends or family who misses Filipino food cooked the traditional way. I’m sure that they’d be delighted and it’ll somehow make them feel nostalgic.
