Bistro Manuel: Elevate your dining experience
I’ve been eyeing to try Bistro Manuel for some time now and I was glad I had a taste of its fine dishes last week with some of my friends. I’ve heard of Lolo Dad’s but wasn’t fortunate to try it as its already closed its doors. As you know, this restaurant is famous for its fine dining menu outside of hotels with dishes that were truly pleasing to both eyes and appetite.
It’s not my first time trying the sumptuous dishes that Chef Ariel offers. I once visited Taperia Poblacion and just like Lolo Dad’s, it is closed. But then again, I’m glad there’s still Bistro Manuel and the dishes again come alive.
This is a fine dining restaurant located in Poblacion, Makati. It is best to call in for reservations but walk-ins are also welcome. The restaurant is at peak during weekdays, dinner.
They have functions available and also cater to big groups. Chef can customize menu and dishes to the client’s liking. Not only that, there’s degustation available here, too for Php1,800 and that includes 8 courses already.
Ambiance is cozy, elegant and with minimal designs and accent. With some paintings hanging on the wall and its white linen and wooden tables and chairs.
There’s an open kitchen where you can see the Chef doing wonderful dishes.
Chef Ariel Manuel is known to serve the “most delectable, well plated entrees, with each dessert being a work of art.”
That is indeed evident when we watched him prepare the food right in front of our eyes. His attention to detail and measurements were incredible, making sure that the dishes were well presented.
Started with Amuse Bouche canapes as Chef’s compliments.
Freshly Baked Breads – I can finish more of these because it was really delicious. That’s served warm and fluffy.
Double Espresso Soup (Php295) – tomato and mushroom cream-based soups
What a way to enjoy these but in an espresso glasses. Definitely a must try. The cream based soup were thick and surprisingly, the tomato wasn’t that acidic and I was able to enjoy both happily.
Lolo Dad’s Cafe Baked Oysters (Php230 per piece) – with Angel Hair pasta and Parmesan cheese
That’s oyster with melted cheese and creamy pasta topped with chunks of foie gras. Such a superb play on each flavor.
Spinach and Warm Mushroom Salad (Php380) – smoked bacon and roasted garlic vinaigrette
Romaine Ceasar Salad (Php380) – Crispy Pancetta and six-minute boiled egg in Anchovy, Lemon and Parmesan cheese dressing
Even beverages were on point. I ordered the Freshly squeezed Orange Juice but I I sipped on the Iced Tea and it was real good, too. Probably one of the best Iced Tea I’ve had.
Sorbet (compliments of the chef). Citrus sherbet served to cleanse the palate
“Only for the Rich” Pizza (Php1,290) – lobster, duck liver, scallops, prosciutto, and Salmon with Carabao’s milk cheese, and truffled tomato sauce.
The name intrigues us, so we ordered and this did not disappoint. Just look at the generous toppings on the thin crust dough. It was really good.
Lamb Shawarma Grilled Pizza (Php700) – lamb belly, tomatoes, and onions with yoghurt and chili dip
You can imagine Shawarma Pizza but to me, not really. The flavor is still more on the cheesy side and the meat still has that subtle taste. I actually loved everything in this pizza.
Mild Spice Arabbiata (Php550) – tomato base sauce pasta season with Basil, Garlic, and Chili Flakes
Pan-fried Fillet of Salmon (Php695) – caramelized onions and potatoes with Bacon butter sauce
That’s perfectly fried Salmon with amazing flavors all in one plate. I also enjoyed the crispy skin on top.
Seared Scallops and Scampi (Php990) – Rigatoni stuffed with bechamel sauce with seared scallops and plump shrimp
US Rib-Eye Prime Steak (Php2,200) – that’s 300 grams of premium steak in medium doneness with truffled mashed potatoes and chilled Hollandaise. This is indeed one of the best steak in Poblacion. It’s so succulent.
The mashed potatoes also were so good as I was able to taste the truffle mildly.
Roasted Duck Breast (Php860) – moulard breast of duck on compressed potatoes
When it comes to presentation, Chef is really virtuoso, and the taste? memorable, each dishes is magnefique.
Lamb and Lamb with Lamb (P860) – roast lamb rump, stewed lamb breast and fried lamb sweetbread with sieved potatoes
Each is from different parts of the lamb cooked differently in one single plate. Just like the other meats, these were done nicely, tender, and yum!
As you know, Chef’s wife – Mrs. Mia Manuel is a Pastry Chef and I remember having the Magdalene in Taperia and I was blown away. As much as I’m excited with the mains, I suggest you must have some desserts as well.
Baked Cheesecake with Orange in Spiced Syrup (Php275)
White Chocolate Creme Brulee with Berry Tartlet (Php240)
Tiramisu Souffle with Vanilla Sauce (Php350)
Lemon Meringue Pie with Chocolate Ice Cream (Php295)
Declension of Mango and Mascarpone Cheese with Vanilla Frozen Cream and Dulce de Leche Sauce (Php285)
Freshly Baked Apple Tart with Rock Salt and Olive Oil Ice Cream (Php295)
Everything was made fresh. I am still blown away with each desserts I’ve tried. But if you’d ask for my favorite, it would be the Declension. It was indeed decadent and heavenly.
I highly encourage you to try Bistro Manuel to have an extra ordinary dining experience. Treat your loved ones over dinner and enjoy the perfectly plated food, its wondrous taste, and relaxing music.
