Abbiocco Alternative Filipino Restaurant: Homegrown flavors reinvented

Abbiocco (Italian) noun: that sleepy feeling you get after a big meal. Everyone has succumbed to drowsiness after a meal at one time or another, but only the Italians have enshrined the phenomenon in a single word. When you wish you could take a nap after lunch, you’re “having the abbiocco” – and you know what? That’s exactly what we felt after spending our lunch here.

The ambiance has a modern and classy touch and since they’re relatively new, there’s still some decor that needs to fill up some spaces. I love the play on the colors of white, yellow and grey.  Plus the wine selections at the bar area were a sight to look at.

The friendly staff of Abbiocco welcomed us and ushered us to our seats. They were all smiles and ready to assist. I also appreciated that they informed us of the servings, and the best sellers before ordering.

We tried the food during their opening and I could say that they’re ready to assist their customers.

Abbiocco Alternative Filipino aims to redefine the Filipino classic dishes by providing a fusion of Italian, Spanish and Western Cuisines. Their vision is to honor our authentic flavors with additional contemporary elements and techniques.

House Kalabasa Soup (Php198) – Mild sweet and savory, creamy soup of pureed pumpkin and crunchy local diced biscocho. Perfect starter.  I love the creaminess of this soup.  It was thick and you’d know they used fresh vegetables, too.

IMG_0445

Fried Shrimps in Salted Egg Sauce (Php388) – Lightly coated fried shrimps in special salted egg sauce and mango salsa.

IMG_0448

My favorite dish. The deep-fried prawns with its light batter tossed in Salted Egg sauce were a perfect match.  I appreciated that the Salted Egg wasn’t that strong. The Mango, Onions, Cucumber and Cabbage on the side added more fruity flavors in it.  Every flavor just burst.

Abbiocco’s Ensalada ala Anton (Php348) – Romaine and iceberg lettuce, smoked bacon bits. biscocho, sun-dried local tomatoes, Parmesan cheese and Abbiocco’s very own salad dressing.  Now, this is one healthy salad.  Its sauce was done right and not overwhelming.

6 Hours Oven Braised Lamb Shank (Php1,888) – Slow cooked shank of lamb in curry sauce, served with Abbiocco rice and side vegetables. This was indeed a gem of Abbiocco.  The curry flavor permeates the tender, succulent, fall-off-the-bone Lamb Shank. It almost melts in your mouth.

George’s Oven Baked Parmesan (Php458) – Oven baked chicken breast topped with fresh tomato sauce, Parmesan cheese and mozzarella, served with Pesto pasta and side vegetables. I was a bit surprised with its servings.  The pesto in the al dente pasta tasted perfectly – not strong. The Chicken breast was tender, too, topped with its fresh tomato sauce giving it some acidity.

Seafood Kare-Kare sa Gata (Php798) – Mixed seafood with vegetables cooked in peanut sauce and served with bagoong.

I was looking for some Bagoong, but really, you don’t need one.  The sauce was creamy and peanut-y, the way how I wanted in a Kare-Kare.  The seafood were all fresh.  I personally love the Squid for it was cooked perfectly. It was soft and chewy at the same time.

Pasta Crema Carbonara (Php348) – Spaghetti noodles made with egg, caramelized local onions, queso de bola, guanciale (or smoked bacon), and pepper

That creamy white sauce was so good along with its al dente pasta. It has a generous amount of bacon, too.

Shrimp and Spicy Garlic Pizza (Php588) – fresh pizza dough with baby shrimps, chili flakes, cherry tomatoes, basil, garlic and Parmesan cheese

I am not a fan of biscuit dough, and I find its crust a bit hard. But the toppings were all delicious as it tasted a bit spicy.

Leche Flan – I love the creamy and succulent taste of this Leche Flan. There’s drizzled of caramel sauce and Macapuno on the middle.  Truly delectable.

Halo-Halo – It has Saba, Macapuno, Ube, Sweet Beans, Ube Ice Cream topped with Cherry. What a way to end a meal.

I can say that they have a huge serving size that’ll be good for 2 people.  Plating was all nicely done making you full by looking at it already.  I highly suggest that you plan your visit here with your family and friends as you will not regret it.
